As daylight hours shorten, Del Mar Village becomes an especially rewarding place to experience sunset. The coastline, parks, and dining spots all offer front-row views of the sky shifting into warm shades of gold, pink, and orange.
North Beach (Dog Beach)
North Beach, often known as Dog Beach, is a relaxed shoreline where visitors can bring family members and pets to enjoy the evening by the water. Sitting on the sand with the ocean breeze and watching the sun dip toward the horizon creates a calm, scenic atmosphere.
On cooler evenings, the sky often turns soft tones of orange and pink, creating ideal conditions for photos or simply enjoying the changing light as day turns into night.
Powerhouse Park and Seagrove Park
Powerhouse Park is known for its open ocean views that can be enjoyed from multiple vantage points. Families often gather here, with children playing in the playground while adults relax on the grassy areas overlooking the coastline.
Just nearby, Seagrove Park offers wide, elevated views of the ocean and sunset. Visitors often bring blankets and picnic meals from local restaurants to enjoy an easy evening on the cliffside as the sun sets over the Pacific.
The Sunset Seat
Further south along Camino Del Mar (Highway 101), there is a unique artistic landmark carved from a preserved Torrey Pine tree. Known as the Sunset Seat, it provides a dedicated spot designed specifically for viewing the evening sky.
Its placement allows visitors to sit comfortably and take in the full transition of daylight into sunset without distraction, making it one of the most memorable viewpoints in the area.
Dining with a Sunset View
Del Mar Village also offers several dining options where sunset views are part of the experience. At Beeside Balcony, guests can enjoy a blend of New American, Mediterranean, and California-inspired cuisine while watching the sky change colors above the coastal landscape.
At Jake's Del Mar, meals are served just steps from the shoreline, where the sound of waves adds to the relaxed dining atmosphere.
For a more casual setting, Viewpoint Brewing Co. offers outdoor seating overlooking the San Dieguito Lagoon and Del Mar Racetrack, along with lawn games and open-air sunset views.
Closing Moments of the Day
Whether you are sitting on the sand, relaxing in a park, admiring art, or dining by the coast, Del Mar Village provides multiple ways to experience golden hour. Each location offers its own perspective on the same natural spectacle—the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean.
